Žumberak Mountains and Samobor Highlands area were declared a protected natural value in 1999: a nature park. It is managed by the Public Institution “Nature Park Žumberak – Samoborsko gorje”. The area of the protected area is 333 km2, referring to the mountain area of the southern side of Žumberak Mountains and the Samobor Highlands. It lies in the administrative area of Zagreb and Karlovac County and covers the cities of Samobor, Jastrebarsko and Ozalj, and the municipalities of Žumberak, Krašić and Klinča Sela. The highest peak is Sveta Gera (1178 m above sea level), areas of special protection are Slapnica near Krašić (significant landscape), Japetić (a special reserve for forest vegetation) and Okić Grad with surroundings (park-forest).ark-šuma).
